Role Description

As Product & Technology Officer, you will build, improve and maintain the digital products used across Bath Finance Society.
You will contribute across the BFS website, ?mobile app? and wider digital infrastructure, including backend systems, APIs, databases, testing and deployment. You will help implement new features, troubleshoot technical issues and support the Society’s digital systems, while also contributing to product decisions and helping shape how BFS uses technology to improve the experience of its members.
Vibe Coding is welcome and can be used throughout the development process. However, you should be able to understand and review what is being built rather than blindly relying on AI-generated solutions. In particular, you will be expected to think carefully about security, data handling, permissions and other sensitive parts of the system, ensuring that technical decisions are appropriate and implementations work as intended.
This is an opportunity to gain practical experience working on real products with an active user base while developing your software development, problem-solving and product skills.

What You’ll Work On

Depending on current projects and priorities, you may work across:
  • The BFS website and member-facing web experiences
  • The ?BFS mobile app?
  • Frontend development and user interfaces
  • Backend systems, databases and APIs
  • New features and integrations
  • Authentication and member-facing functionality
  • Testing, debugging and deployment
  • Performance, reliability and security improvements
  • Internal tools and systems used by the Society
  • Exploring and prototyping new digital products and features
You will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects and contribute from the initial idea through to implementation and improvement.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is curious, ambitious and not afraid to take on something they have never done before. You do not need to know how to solve every problem from the start, what matters is being willing to explore, learn and figure things out along the way.
You should enjoy building things and get genuinely invested in the projects you work on. If an idea excites you, we want someone who wants to see it through from the first concept and inevitable problems along the way to something that is finished, working and being used.
We value initiative and ownership. You should be comfortable approaching unfamiliar technologies, experimenting with different solutions and continuing when the first approach does not work.
